The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $1000.00 reward and LION is offering a $500.00 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the individual(s) who abandoned hens in Millers Pond in Smithtown resulting in their death on or about January 16, 2018.
Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk County SPCA says that it is illegal to abandon any animal including wildlife.
John DiLeonardo, President and Anthropologist of LION (Long Island Orchestrating For Nature) said “Chickens and other fowl feel pain and fear just like we do, and they depend on us completely to keep them safe. Whoever killed these birds lacks empathy and is a threat to our community. LION is urging anyone with information to contact the Suffolk County SPCA before this criminal hurts someone else.”
We can use the public’s help. We urge anyone with information to contact the Suffolk County SPCA so that we are able to bring the individual(s) responsible for this act of animal cruelty to justice.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.
All calls will be kept confidential.
