Suffolk County SPCA Detectives arrested and charged an Amityville man with animal cruelty on Friday, April 19th, 2019.
Andre D. Staley, 37, Chevy Chase Lane, was arrested and held at the Suffolk County 1st Precinct. He was charged with failure to provide food, water, and veterinary care to Bella, his female German Shepherd, as well as multiple tethering charges.
After an anonymous complaint, SPCA detectives responded to find the 2-year-old dog tethered on a 2-foot wire cable with no food or water and sitting in her own feces and urine on April 2, 2019. The wire cable was tied so tightly around the dog’s neck that it became partially embedded requiring surgery to remove the necrotic tissue, treat the infection and close up the open wound. The dog was seized and immediately transported by Babylon Animal Shelter to be evaluated by a veterinarian.
Staley will be arraignment tomorrow, April 20, 2019.
