Suffolk County SPCA Detectives arrested and charged a Bellport woman with animal cruelty on Monday, April 8th, 2019.

The Suffolk County SPCA responded to a house fire on Pace Avenue in Bellport after being contacted by Suffolk County Police 5th Precinct officers that there were dogs on the property.

Cassandra Bright, 50, was charged with neglecting 2 dogs found tethered on short chains in the backyard without food or water.  The animals were transported to Brookhaven Animal Shelter. The remains of 2 other dogs were found on the property, one still tethered in a dog house. The investigation is ongoing.
