DUCKLINGS RESCUED FROM STORM DRAIN IN COMMACK BY SUFFOLK COUNTY SPCA AND SMITHTOWN ANIMAL SHELTER
On May 8th at approximately 11 am, Suffolk County SPCA received a call from an employee from a bank in Commack, that 9 ducklings had toppled into a storm drain in the Mayfair Shopping Center. The mother duck was frantically scrambling around the drain trying to get to her babies. Suffolk County Humane Investigator, Jennifer Pape, along with 2 Smithtown Animal Control Officers, Cherie Stevens and Deborah Buzzard, and Steven from Smithtown Highway Dept. met at the location. They all worked together to help with the recovery of 9 ducklings. The ducklings were reunited with their mother and transported to the Nissequogue River. Mother duck and her ducklings were grateful. Great job by all.
