The Suffolk County SPCA would like to remind pet owners that on Valentine’s Day you need to keep your pet safe.

Chocolate can be dangerous when ingested by pets. Even in small amounts it can cause serious consequences and even death.

Flowers can be very romantic but they can also harmful to pets. Keep floral arrangements away from your pets. Cats can have a serve allergic reaction to lilies.

Be careful of candles.  Extinguish them when you leave the room to prevent injuries or fires. A curious pet can accidentally knock it over.

Remember, if you pet exhibits any symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, abnormally elevated heart rate, seizures or any other unusual symptom, contact your veterinarian or a poison control center.

Your friends at the Suffolk County SPCA would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day.
