The Suffolk County SPCA arrested and charged a Mastic man with Animal Cruelty on August 3, 2016. Gavin T. Hessings, 30, was arrested for severely neglecting his dogs. One of the dogs, a female pit bull, which was extremely emaciated, was transported by Brookhaven Animal Shelter to a local animal hospital where it had to be humanely euthanized. Hessings will appear in First District Court in Central Islip on September 26, 2016. Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County.
